About CarrierRecord

CarrierRecord is an independent FMCSA safety data platform built for freight brokers, shippers, and safety professionals who need to vet motor carriers quickly and accurately.

What We Do

We aggregate publicly available data from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), calculate safety grades using a transparent weighted methodology, and provide free tools for evaluating carriers at scale. Every carrier in our database has a safety profile with inspection history, crash records, out-of-service rates, and a letter grade from A (excellent) to F (poor).

Data Sources

All data on CarrierRecord comes directly from official U.S. Department of Transportation sources. These records are public domain and updated monthly:

Dataset Source Records
Carrier Census FMCSA / data.transportation.gov ~4.2 million
Inspections MCMIS Inspection File ~8.2 million
Crashes SMS Input Files (24-month window) ~258,000
Violations MCMIS Violations File ~13 million
Licensing & Insurance FMCSA L&I Dataset ~1.8 million

How Safety Grades Work

Our A-F grading system evaluates carriers on four factors: vehicle out-of-service rate, driver out-of-service rate, crash rate per power unit, and fatal crash history. Grades are computed from the most recent 24-month FMCSA reporting window. Carriers without inspection data receive an NR (Not Rated) designation.
